The aims of the Portishead Railway Group are:

To have a fully functioning train service between Portishead and Bristol. This will be achieved by lobbying for:

• Timely completion of the construction phase
• The highest achievable quality, facilities and service of the infrastructure
• The highest achievable quality, facilities and service of the train service
• Creating and operating a Rail User Group/Community Rail Group to support the line once it is reopened.

History of the Group:

The group was formed by merging two groups – the Portishead Railway Action Group (formed April 2000) and the Portishead Heritage Rail Project (formed Nov 2004). Both groups were working together towards the same goals, the former on the technical aspects and the latter on educational, heritage and publicity aspects. In order to avoid public confusion over the two groups, a merger took place in November 2005.
